Tell us about your business and why you decided to open.

Red Lantern Coffee Co. is an independent small batch coffee roaster located in Kingsville, ON. We have a cafe/roastery offering on-site roasted coffee by the bag, cup and home coffee brewing accessories. We started in 2017 as a wholesale roasted and opened our current retail location just over a year ago, March 5th, 2019. We decided to open to give a showcase for our coffee. A place where people could try it, see it being roasted and ask questions.

What business was like before COVID-19?

Before COVID-19, business was much more social. People would come in and ask questions about coffee, our coffee, and brewing methods. People were also meeting in our cafe space with friends and for business meetings. We were working on building a sense of community and that has been put on hold for now.

What has business been like since the outbreak of COVID-19?

Since the outbreak, business is a lot less social and has really slowed down. People are doing the responsible thing and staying home and not meeting up with friends for coffee. We've seen our on-line sales increase as we offer free local (Essex County/Windsor) delivery and $9 flat rate shipping for the rest of Canada.

How will this impact your business long term?

This will slow down some of our plans for growth and expansion. We will be forced to try and get through this rough patch as opposed to growing and increasing our services.

How can people help?

The number one thing would be to stay safe and try and get through this as fast as possible. Getting our coffee on-line is probably the best way at this point but we are here at the shop for quick out the door sales too.
